Why book with us
Volkswagen Servicing & Repairs Pelsall with clear advice.
We work on Volkswagen cars and vans of all ages: the Up, Polo, Golf, Passat, Touran, T-Roc and Tiguan, plus the Caddy and Transporter. TDI diesels, TSI petrols, manual and DSG, we service them, find faults and repair them. VW owners use us from Pelsall, Walsall, Walsall Wood and Brownhills because they get straight answers and a fair price. We see a lot of Golfs and Polos, so we know their habits well.
VWs are well built, but some faults are common. TDI diesels use a timing belt that must be changed on time. Some early TSI and 1.2 petrols stretch their timing chains. The seven-speed dry-clutch DSG can judder when pulling away. Diesels that do lots of short trips clog their DPF and EGR valves, and plastic water pump housings can leak coolant.
We find out what is really wrong before we suggest anything. That means reading the fault codes, checking live data and testing the parts. Then we ring you, explain what we found and give you a clear price. No work goes ahead without your say-so, and if something can wait until your next service, we will tell you. We would rather fix the right thing once than guess and have you back again next week.
A garage has stood on our High Street site since 1936, and we are the third family to run it. Mark and Suzi took it on in 2023 and renovated it. Mark has been in the motor trade since leaving school, more than 30 years, and Suzi has worked as a service adviser and in customer support. We are rated 4.8 from 55 Google reviews.
Whether your Golf needs a service, your Polo has a warning light or your Tiguan's timing belt is due, call us on 01922 682200. We are open Monday to Friday 8:30 to 17:00 and Saturday 8:30 to 13:00. If you run a Transporter, our Transporter page has more on vans. You can also pop in to the workshop on the High Street and have a chat with Mark or Suzi.

Common questions
- When is my VW timing belt due?
- It depends on the engine. Many TDI diesels are due somewhere between 60,000 and 140,000 miles, or after a set number of years, whichever comes first. Belts snap without warning and usually take the engine with them. Give us your reg and mileage and we will check the interval for your exact car.
- My Polo rattles on start-up. Is it the timing chain?
- It could be. Some 1.2 petrol engines in the Polo and early 1.2 and 1.4 TSI engines are known for timing chain stretch, which shows up as a rattle for a few seconds after a cold start. It is worth checking soon, because a chain that jumps a tooth can damage the engine.
- Why does my DSG gearbox judder?
- The seven-speed dry-clutch DSG fitted to many Polos, Golfs and smaller cars can judder when pulling away as the clutch wears or the gearbox needs relearning. The six-speed wet-clutch DSG also needs oil changes at set intervals. We read the codes, check the history and explain the options.
- Will an independent service affect my VW warranty?
- No. UK block exemption rules mean an independent garage can service your car without affecting the warranty, as long as the work follows the schedule with parts and oils to the right spec. We record every service, which also keeps your history complete for when you sell.
- What does an EGR valve do and why does it fail?
- The EGR valve sends some exhaust gas back into the engine to cut emissions. On diesels it slowly clogs with soot, which can cause rough running, a loss of power and a warning light. We test it first and often a clean is enough, rather than a new valve.
- Can you service my VW Transporter or Caddy?
- Yes. We service and repair VW vans as well as cars, and we MOT vans up to 3,000kg. See our Transporter page for the faults we see most on those. Vans that work hard every day need their oil and brakes looking at more often, so tell us how you use yours and we will plan the servicing around it.
- Do you use genuine VW parts?
- We use parts to VW's spec, either genuine or quality parts from the same makers. We will tell you which we are fitting. If you want genuine VW parts only, say so and we will price it that way. Either way, the parts we fit meet the spec your VW needs, so your service history and warranty are not affected.
- Do you MOT Volkswagens?
- Yes. We carry out Class 4 MOTs on cars and light vans up to 3,000kg. If your car fails, we explain why and give you a price for the repair before we do anything. You can book your VW MOT and service together, so the car is only off the road once, and we will point out anything that is close to needing attention.
- Do you offer discounts?
- Yes. We offer discounts for police, fire service, NHS workers and armed forces. Mention it when you call 01922 682200 to book. If you are not sure whether your role counts, just ask when you ring and we will tell you straight away. It is our way of saying thank you to the people who look after us all.
