Why book with us
VW Transporter Servicing & Repairs Pelsall with clear advice.
The Volkswagen Transporter is a hard-working van that holds its value, and we see T5s, T6s and T6.1s every week alongside plenty of Caddys. Some are trade vans full of racking, some are day vans or camper conversions. We service them, diagnose warning lights, and handle clutches, brakes, suspension, steering and engine faults. Whatever yours is used for, we aim to keep it reliable and earning its keep.
Transporters have a few well-known faults. On the T5 the dual-mass flywheel is a common wear item, giving a judder when pulling away and a rattle at idle. EGR valves can stick and cause flat spots or limp mode, and the sliding side door can give trouble with its runners and locking. On the T6 and T6.1, short local runs can block the particulate filter, and the AdBlue system can throw warnings of its own.
We start by finding the real cause. We read the fault codes, road test the van if needed and check the simple things first. Then we call you with a clear quote and tell you honestly what needs doing now and what can safely wait. Nothing is done without your say-so. Ply-lining, racking and camper fittings stay where they are for most jobs.
Mark has been in the motor trade since leaving school, over 30 years, and Suzi has worked as a service adviser, so you deal with people who understand vans and the cost of downtime. A garage has stood on our High Street site in Pelsall since 1936. Van owners come to us from Walsall, Walsall Wood, Brownhills and Great Wyrley because we are local and give straight answers.
Many Transporters are plated at under 3,000kg design gross weight and can have a Class 4 MOT with us. Heavier versions plated above 3,000kg are Class 7, which we cannot test, but we can still service and repair them. Check your plate or V5C, or ask us. Call 01922 682200 to book. We are open weekdays 8:30 to 5:00 and Saturday mornings 8:30 to 1:00.

Common questions
- How often should I service my Transporter?
- Transporters run on either a fixed or a variable service schedule depending on how they were set up, and the interval can be up to two years on the variable plan. A van that works hard or does lots of short runs is better on a fixed yearly service. Give us your registration and we will check what suits your van.
- Can you MOT my VW Transporter?
- Yes, if it is plated at 3,000kg design gross weight or less, which is a Class 4 test. Many Transporters and all Caddys fall into that. Heavier Transporters plated over 3,000kg need a Class 7 test, which we cannot do. The weight is on the plate in the van and on your V5C.
- Why does my T5 judder when I pull away?
- A judder from a standstill on a T5, often with a rattle at idle that stops when you press the clutch, is usually a worn dual-mass flywheel. It is one of the most common jobs on these vans. We check it properly and quote for the flywheel and clutch together if both need doing, so you are not paying for the labour twice.
- Do you work on camper conversions?
- Yes. We service and repair the van itself, including engine, brakes, suspension and steering, on Transporter campers and day vans. The habitation side, such as gas and water systems, is a job for a habitation engineer. Fitted furniture can usually stay in place for mechanical work.
- Will an independent service affect my VW warranty?
- No. Under UK block exemption rules you can have your Transporter serviced by an independent garage without affecting the manufacturer's warranty, as long as the schedule is followed and parts and oils meet Volkswagen's specification. We record the work for your service history.
- What does a DPF warning mean on my T6?
- It means the particulate filter is filling with soot faster than it can burn it off, which is common on vans that only do short trips. Sometimes a longer drive at steady speed clears it. If the light stays on or the van loses power, bring it in and we will find out why it is not clearing.
- Do I need to take out my racking?
- No. Racking, ply-lining and roof bars can stay in place for servicing, MOTs and most repairs. Please remove loose tools and stock where you can. If a job needs anything moved we will let you know when you book. A quick clear-out also makes it easier for us to spot leaks, rust or damage in the load area.
- Do you offer any discounts?
- Yes. We offer discounts to police, fire service, NHS workers and the armed forces. Fleet and business customers are welcome too, with invoices made out to your business. Just mention it when you call so we can note it on your booking, and have your ID to hand when you drop the van off.
- How do I book my Transporter in?
- Call us on 01922 682200 with your registration and a quick description of the problem. We are at 45 High Street, Pelsall, and open Monday to Friday 8:30 to 5:00 and Saturday 8:30 to 1:00. If you are not sure what is wrong, describe what you hear, feel or see on the dash, and we will tell you how best to book it in.
