Why book with us

Tyres & Tracking with clear advice.

Tyres are the only part of your car that touches the road, so their condition matters for braking, steering and grip in the wet. In the UK the legal minimum tread depth for cars and light vans is 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tyre, all the way round. Many drivers choose to replace tyres before that, because stopping distances in the wet get longer as tread wears. We help drivers in Pelsall and Walsall pick the right tyres for their car and how they drive.

We supply and fit tyres for cars and light vans. Give us your registration and we will check the correct size, load rating and speed rating for your vehicle. Van tyres are built to carry heavier loads, so it is important they match what the van needs. We fit each tyre with care, fit new valves where needed, balance each wheel so it runs smoothly, and tighten the wheel nuts to the correct torque. Where your car has tyre pressure sensors, we reset the system.

Tracking, also called wheel alignment, is the angle of the wheels compared with each other and the car. A knock from a pothole or kerb can push it out. Signs that the tracking is out include the car pulling to one side, a steering wheel that sits off-centre when driving straight, and tyres wearing on one edge. Out-of-line tracking wears tyres out early, so checking it after new tyres or suspension work protects your money.

Before we fit anything, we look at how your old tyres have worn. Wear on the inside or outside edge can point to tracking or suspension trouble. Wear in the middle often means over-inflation, and wear on both edges suggests under-inflation. We explain what we see and what, if anything, needs fixing, so the new tyres last. Mark has been fixing vehicles for more than 30 years, and we only recommend work you actually need.

We fit tyres and check tracking for drivers across Walsall, Bloxwich, Brownhills and Great Wyrley. We also look after motorbike riders, though bike tyres are covered on their own page. To check tyre sizes and book in, call us on 01922 682200 or pop in to 45 High Street, Pelsall. We are open Monday to Friday 8:30 to 17:00 and Saturday 8:30 to 13:00.

Common questions

What is the legal tyre tread depth in the UK?
For cars and light vans, the legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tread, all the way round the tyre. Driving on tyres below that can lead to a fine and penalty points for each tyre. Grip in the wet drops as tread wears, so many drivers replace tyres at around 3mm. We can measure yours for you.
Do you supply tyres or only fit them?
We supply and fit. Give us your registration and we will check what size and rating your car or van needs, then talk you through the options to suit how you drive and your budget. Every tyre is fitted, balanced and set to the right pressure before you leave.
How do I know if my tracking is out?
The usual signs are the car pulling to one side on a straight, flat road, the steering wheel sitting off-centre when you drive straight, and tyres wearing on one edge faster than the other. Hitting a pothole or kerb hard can knock it out. We can check and adjust it, and look at the suspension at the same time.
Should I have the tracking checked when I get new tyres?
It is a good idea, especially if your old tyres wore unevenly. If the tracking is out, new tyres will wear the same way and need replacing sooner. A check protects the money you have just spent on tyres. We look at the wear on your old tyres and advise whether a check is worthwhile.
Why is my steering wheel vibrating?
A vibration at certain speeds, often around 50 to 70 mph, is usually a wheel out of balance. It can also come from a damaged tyre, a bent wheel or worn steering or suspension parts. We check the tyres and wheels, rebalance them and look at the suspension if the vibration does not go away.
Do you fit van tyres?
Yes. We fit tyres on light vans as well as cars. Van tyres often carry a higher load rating, marked by a C on the sidewall, so they can carry heavy loads safely. We check the rating your van needs and fit tyres that match it, then balance the wheels and set the pressures.
Should I replace tyres in pairs?
It is usually best to replace tyres in pairs on the same axle so grip and handling stay balanced. If you are only replacing two, the newer tyres are normally fitted to the rear for stability, though this can vary. We check the tread on all four and give you honest advice.
Can tyres fail the MOT?
Yes. Tread below the legal limit, cuts, bulges, exposed cords, the wrong size or load rating and a tyre pressure warning light can all lead to a fail. We carry out Class 4 MOTs on cars and light vans, so if a tyre needs replacing we can fit one and retest.
Can I get new tyres fitted near me in Walsall?
Yes. We are at 45 High Street in Pelsall, just outside Walsall. Call us on 01922 682200 with your registration and we will check the sizes and options, then book you in. We are open Monday to Friday 8:30 to 17:00 and Saturday 8:30 to 13:00.
