A few Nissan faults turn up often. The 1.5 dCi diesel uses a timing belt that must be changed on time. Diesels doing short trips block their DPF. The CVT automatic in the Juke and other models can whine or judder, especially if its fluid has never been changed. Some 1.2 DIG-T petrols in later Qashqais suffer timing chain stretch, and older Navara pickups can rust badly underneath.

Common questions
- When is my Qashqai timing belt due?
- The 1.5 dCi diesel in many Qashqais and Jukes has a timing belt that must be changed at a set mileage or age, whichever comes first. If it snaps, the engine is usually badly damaged. Petrol and some other engines use a chain instead. Give us your reg and we will check what yours has and when it is due.
- Why does my Nissan CVT gearbox whine or judder?
- CVT gearboxes use a belt and pulleys instead of fixed gears. Old fluid, overheating and wear can cause whining, judder or slipping. Many owners never have the fluid changed. We read the gearbox codes, check the fluid and tell you honestly what we find before suggesting a repair.
- Can you service a Nissan Leaf?
- Yes. An electric car still needs servicing. On the Leaf that means brakes, which can seize from light use, suspension, tyres, the cabin filter, brake fluid, coolant checks and the 12V battery. We also read the battery health so you know where you stand.
- Will an independent service affect my Nissan warranty?
- No. Under UK block exemption rules you can use an independent garage and keep the warranty, as long as the work follows the schedule and uses parts and oils to the right spec. We record every service so your history stays complete, which helps when you sell.
- How often should I service my Nissan?
- Most Nissans need a service every year or every 12,500 to 18,000 miles, depending on model and engine. Short trips are hard on oil, so a yearly service is wise even if you do low miles. We will look up the right schedule for your car.
- Do you work on the Navara?
- Yes. We service and repair the Navara pickup. Older D40 models are known for chassis rust, so we check the frame closely. Pickups with a design gross weight up to 3,000kg take a Class 4 MOT, which we do. Heavier ones need a Class 7 test, which we do not carry out, so check the plate or call us.
- Can you fix a DPF warning on my Nissan diesel?
- Often, yes. Diesels used mainly for short local runs cannot burn off the soot in the filter. We check the sensors, then try a forced regeneration or a clean. If the filter is finished, we will tell you and give you a price.
- Do you MOT Nissans?
- Yes. We carry out Class 4 MOTs on cars and light vans up to 3,000kg. If your car fails, we explain why and quote for the repair before doing any work. You can book your Nissan MOT and service together, so the car is only off the road once, and we will point out anything that is close to needing attention.
