Common questions
- How often should a Sprinter be serviced?
- Most Sprinters use a service indicator that works out the interval from how the van is driven, and the interval varies by year and engine. A van doing heavy work or lots of short runs benefits from more frequent oil changes. Tell us your registration and mileage and we will check the right schedule for your van.
- Can you MOT my Sprinter?
- Only if it is plated at 3,000kg design gross weight or less, which is a Class 4 test. Most Sprinters are 3,500kg, which makes them Class 7, and we cannot test those. You can find the weight on the plate in the door pillar or on your V5C. We are happy to service and repair your Sprinter whichever class it is.
- What is the chuffing noise from my Sprinter engine?
- On many Sprinters a chuffing or ticking noise from the top of the engine, with a smell of fumes in the cab, is a leaking injector seal. Exhaust gas escapes past the seal and bakes carbon around the injector. It is best fixed early, because the longer it goes on, the harder the injector is to remove. We will check it and quote before doing anything.
- Can you repair rust on my Sprinter?
- We check for corrosion on arches, sills, door bottoms and the underside at every service and tell you what we find. Serious structural rust near brake or suspension mounts can fail an MOT. We will show you what we have found and talk you through the options, so you can decide how to deal with it.
- Will using you affect my Mercedes warranty?
- No. UK block exemption rules mean you can use an independent garage for servicing without affecting the warranty, provided the work follows the service schedule and uses parts and oils to Mercedes-Benz specification. We record everything so your service history stays complete.
- Do I need to empty my van first?
- Please take out loose tools and stock where you can so we can get to everything safely. Fixed racking, ply-lining and roof racks can stay where they are for servicing and most repairs. If a job needs anything moved, we will tell you when you book.
- My Sprinter has gone into limp mode. What should I do?
- Limp mode protects the engine when the van detects a fault. On Sprinters a common cause is a split turbo or intercooler hose, but it can also be a sensor, the EGR or a blocked particulate filter. Drive gently, avoid heavy loads, and bring it in so we can read the codes and find the real cause.
- Do you work on business and fleet vans?
- Yes. Fleet and business customers are welcome. We book vans in around your work, keep a record of each one and make invoices out to your business. We also offer discounts to police, fire service, NHS and armed forces workers.
