Why book with us
BMW Motorcycle Servicing & Repairs Pelsall with clear advice.
We work on BMW motorbikes from the G 310 R up to the R 1250 GS Adventure, plus plenty of older air-cooled R 1200 GS models and the F 800 and F 900 twins. BMW riders tend to do big miles and expect their bikes to be ready for a long trip at short notice. We look after servicing, brakes, final drive and suspension checks, and we diagnose warning lights and electrical faults.
The boxer-engined GS is the bike we see most. On the older air-cooled R 1200 GS, the fuel pump controller is a known failure that leaves the bike cutting out or refusing to start, and final drive bearings on high-mileage bikes need checking for play. On the liquid-cooled R 1200 GS and R 1250 GS we check the final drive oil and seals, the shaft drive, the brakes and the valve clearances at the points in the schedule.
The F 800, F 850 and F 900 parallel twins use a chain rather than a shaft, so chain and sprocket wear is part of every service. We also check fork seals, which work hard on GS models used on gravel, and the wheel and steering head bearings. The S 1000 RR and XR get close attention to brakes, tyres and suspension.
BMWs carry a lot of electronics, and many have extra lights, heated grips and sat-nav wired in. We can read fault codes, test the battery and charging system and track down drains, so the right fix is found first. We follow BMW's schedule for your model and keep the service history complete.
We are a family-run garage on Pelsall High Street, run by people who ride, and we host bike meets outside the workshop, so you will often find other riders here. Mark has been in the motor trade for over 30 years, and Suzi will talk you through the job and the price before anything starts. A garage has stood on this site since 1936. We see riders from Pelsall, Walsall, Walsall Wood and Aldridge. Call us on 01922 682200 to book your BMW in or to talk through a problem.

Common BMW Motorrad models
Known faults we fix on BMW Motorrads
The problems we see most on these models, and what you will notice first.
BMW Motorrad R 1200 GS (air/oil-cooled)
2004–2012, 1170cc boxer twin
- Fuel pump controller failureThe bike cuts out or will not start, often with a fuel warning. The controller sits under the seat area and is a well-known fault.
- Final drive bearing wearPlay or a clunk at the rear wheel, or oil around the final drive housing on higher-mileage bikes.
BMW Motorrad R 1200 GS LC / R 1250 GS
2013–2023, 1170cc and 1254cc liquid-cooled boxer (ShiftCam on 1250)
- Final drive oil and seal checksOil weeping at the rear hub or a dirty wheel rim, which needs looking at before it reaches the brake.
- Battery and accessory drainWarning lights or a flat battery on bikes with extra lights, heated kit and sat-nav wired in.
BMW Motorrad F 800 GS / F 850 GS / F 900 R
2008–present, 798cc, 853cc and 895cc parallel twin
- Chain and sprocket wearUnlike the boxers these bikes are chain driven, so expect drive slop and frequent chain adjustment as the kit wears.
- Fork seal leaksOil on the fork stanchions and front brake, more common on bikes used off road.

Common questions
- How often should my BMW GS be serviced?
- BMW sets its motorbike service intervals by mileage and by time, so most GS riders have an annual service even if they have not hit the mileage. Valve clearances, final drive oil, brake fluid and other items come up at set points in the schedule. We check the schedule for your model and year when you call.
- My old R 1200 GS cuts out and won't restart. What could it be?
- On the air-cooled R 1200 GS from roughly 2004 to 2012, a common cause is the fuel pump controller, a small unit that is well known for failing. It is not the only possibility, so we check the fuel supply, the electrics and the fault codes first, then tell you what has failed and what it will cost to put right.
- Do you check the final drive on shaft-drive BMWs?
- Yes. On boxer models we check the final drive for oil leaks, change the oil when it is due in the schedule and check the rear wheel for play that can point to a worn bearing. Catching a final drive problem early is far cheaper than dealing with it after it has failed.
- Can you look at warning lights on my BMW motorbike?
- Yes. We can read fault codes on BMW motorbikes and explain what they mean. Many warnings are caused by something simple such as a tired battery or a poor connection on added accessories, so we test those first before suggesting any bigger repair.
- Do you MOT motorcycles?
- Yes. We carry out Class 2 MOTs on motorbikes over 200cc, including your BMW. Call us on 01922 682200 to book a bike MOT, as these are not bookable online. We can service it at the same time and put right anything that would fail.
- Will a service with you affect my BMW warranty?
- Under UK block exemption rules, an independent service keeps the manufacturer warranty valid as long as the work follows the maker's schedule and uses parts and oils to the right specification. We follow the service schedule for your model, use the correct grade of oil and stamp your book or give you a full written record. Recall and warranty repairs themselves still need to go through a dealer.
- Do you have the right setup to work on bikes?
- Yes. We have a motorbike lift in the workshop, so your BMW is held securely at a good working height rather than being worked on at floor level on a paddock stand. That makes jobs like wheel removal, fork work and chain changes safer and easier, and it lets us look properly underneath for leaks and wear.
- Will you give me a price before you start?
- Yes. We look the bike over, tell you what it needs now and what can wait, and give you a clear quote. Nothing gets done without your say-so. If we find something else once the work is under way, we stop and ring you before we go any further, so there are no surprises when you come to collect.
- Do you offer any discounts?
- Yes. We offer discounts for police, fire service, NHS workers and armed forces. Just mention it when you book and bring your ID when you drop the bike off. We are open Monday to Friday 8:30 to 17:00 and Saturday 8:30 to 13:00, closed on Sundays.
