Why book with us

Yamaha Motorcycle Servicing & Repairs Pelsall with clear advice.

We work on Yamaha motorbikes of all sizes, from learner MT-125s to the MT-09, Tracer 9 and older R1s and R6s. Most of what we see is routine servicing, chain and sprocket kits, brakes and the odd electrical fault, but we are happy to look at anything that is not right. Every bike gets the same approach: we find out what is actually wrong, explain it in plain words and agree the price with you first.

The CP2 twin in the MT-07, Tracer 7, XSR700 and Ténéré 700 is a tough engine, but these bikes are often ridden all year and it shows. Chains and sprockets wear quickly if they are not kept clean and oiled, the budget rear shock on early MT-07s feels tired at higher miles, and winter salt gets into fasteners and fork legs. We check all of this at every service and tell you honestly what can wait.

On the CP3 triples in the MT-09, Tracer and XSR900, we pay close attention to fork seals, brake condition and the chain, as these bikes are easy to ride hard. Valve clearances on all Yamaha engines are checked at the mileage in the service schedule. It is a bigger job because the tank, airbox and covers have to come off, but it keeps the engine running cleanly and starting easily.

We will look after your service book so the history stays complete, which helps when it comes to selling the bike. If you have bought a used Yamaha and are not sure what has been done, bring it in and we will go over it, then give you a list of what is due now and what can wait for the next service.

We are a family-run garage on Pelsall High Street, run by people who ride, and we host bike meets outside the workshop, so you will often find other riders here. Mark has been in the motor trade for over 30 years, and Suzi will talk you through the job and the price before anything starts. A garage has stood on this site since 1936. We see riders from Pelsall, Walsall, Bloxwich and Brownhills. Call us on 01922 682200 to book your Yamaha in or to talk through a problem.

Common Yamaha models

Known faults we fix on Yamahas

The problems we see most on these models, and what you will notice first.

Yamaha MT-07 / Tracer 7 / XSR700

2014–present, 689cc CP2 parallel twin

  • Fast chain and sprocket wearA snatchy feel on and off the throttle, a chain that keeps needing adjustment and hooked teeth on the rear sprocket.
  • Soft, basic rear shockThe back end feels wallowy two-up or over bumps, especially on higher-mileage early bikes.
  • Corrosion on exposed partsFurry fasteners, pitted fork legs and tired-looking finishes after a few winters on salted roads.

Yamaha MT-09 / Tracer 900 / XSR900

2014–present, 847cc and 890cc CP3 triple

  • Abrupt throttle on early bikesA jerky pick-up from a closed throttle in the sharpest riding mode, which Yamaha improved on later models.
  • Fork seal weepsOil film on the fork legs and dirty brake pads, often after a lot of winter riding.

Yamaha Ténéré 700

2019–present, 689cc CP2 parallel twin

  • Chain and air filter wear from dirt ridingA chain that stretches quickly and a dirty air filter on bikes used off road or on green lanes.
  • Valve clearances due at serviceNo warning sign at all, so the check needs doing at the mileage Yamaha sets rather than when it feels wrong.

Common questions

How often should I service my Yamaha MT-07?
Yamaha sets its service intervals by mileage and by time, so even a bike that does few miles needs an oil change every year. The exact intervals and the valve clearance check mileage are in your owner's manual, and we can confirm them for your year of bike when you call. Many riders who use their bike through the winter have it looked at more often.
My MT-07 chain keeps going slack. Is that normal?
A new chain beds in and needs adjusting early on, but one that keeps going slack is usually worn, especially if the sprocket teeth look hooked. We measure the chain, check the sprockets and tell you if it is time for a full kit. Changing the chain and both sprockets together lasts much longer than changing the chain on its own.
Do you work on older Yamahas like the R1, R6 and Fazer?
Yes. We work on older Yamaha sports and road bikes as well as the current range. With older bikes we look closely at brakes, fork seals, wheel bearings, the charging system and anything that has perished with age, and we tell you what is safe to leave and what needs doing.
Can you service a Yamaha 125 for a learner rider?
Yes. We service learner bikes such as the MT-125 and YZF-R125. Small bikes are often ridden hard and maintained lightly, so we keep a close eye on the oil, chain, brakes and tyres, and give you straight advice on what a young rider needs to keep the bike safe.
Do you MOT motorcycles?
Yes. We carry out Class 2 MOTs on motorbikes over 200cc, including your Yamaha. Call us on 01922 682200 to book a bike MOT, as these are not bookable online. We can service it at the same time and put right anything that would fail.
Will a service with you affect my Yamaha warranty?
Under UK block exemption rules, an independent service keeps the manufacturer warranty valid as long as the work follows the maker's schedule and uses parts and oils to the right specification. We follow the service schedule for your model, use the correct grade of oil and stamp your book or give you a full written record. Recall and warranty repairs themselves still need to go through a dealer.
Do you have the right setup to work on bikes?
Yes. We have a motorbike lift in the workshop, so your Yamaha is held securely at a good working height rather than being worked on at floor level on a paddock stand. That makes jobs like wheel removal, fork work and chain changes safer and easier, and it lets us look properly underneath for leaks and wear.
Will you give me a price before you start?
Yes. We look the bike over, tell you what it needs now and what can wait, and give you a clear quote. Nothing gets done without your say-so. If we find something else once the work is under way, we stop and ring you before we go any further, so there are no surprises when you come to collect.
Do you offer any discounts?
Yes. We offer discounts for police, fire service, NHS workers and armed forces. Just mention it when you book and bring your ID when you drop the bike off. We are open Monday to Friday 8:30 to 17:00 and Saturday 8:30 to 13:00, closed on Sundays.
