Why book with us
Ducati Motorcycle Servicing & Repairs Pelsall with clear advice.
We work on Ducati motorbikes from the air-cooled Monster and Scrambler to the Multistrada, SuperSport and Panigale. Ducatis are wonderful to ride but they do need servicing that follows the book, especially the desmodromic valve service and, on many models, the cam belts. We look after all of it, along with brakes, chains, clutches and fault finding.
The desmo valve service is the big one. Ducati's desmodromic system opens and closes the valves mechanically, and the clearances need checking and setting at fixed mileages. On the older air-cooled two-valve engines in the Monster 696, 796 and Scrambler, that comes round much sooner than on the liquid-cooled Testastretta 11° engines in the Monster 821, 1200 and 937, or the V4s. We check the exact interval for your bike when you call.
Most Ducati twins drive the cams with rubber belts, and those belts age whether the bike is ridden or not. A belt that fails can wreck the engine, so we change them on time as well as mileage, and check the tensioners and pulleys while we are there. The V4 engines use cam chains instead, so there are no belts to change on those.
Dry clutches on older Ducatis rattle at idle, which is normal, but slipping or juddering means wear. We also check brake fluid, tyres and the chain closely, since many Ducatis are ridden hard. We explain what is due now and what can wait, and keep your service history complete for when you sell.
We are a family-run garage on Pelsall High Street, run by people who ride, and we host bike meets outside the workshop, so you will often find other riders here. Mark has been in the motor trade for over 30 years, and Suzi will talk you through the job and the price before anything starts. A garage has stood on this site since 1936. We see riders from Pelsall, Walsall, Rushall and Aldridge. Call us on 01922 682200 to book your Ducati in or to talk through a problem.

Common Ducati models
Known faults we fix on Ducatis
The problems we see most on these models, and what you will notice first.
Ducati Monster 821 / 1200 / Monster (937)
2014–present, Testastretta 11° L-twin (821cc, 937cc, 1198cc)
- Desmo valve service dueNo warning sign, so the valve clearance service must be done at the mileage Ducati sets for your engine, which is well spaced on these newer twins.
- Cambelts due on ageThe rubber cam belts age even if the bike does few miles, so they need changing on time as well as mileage.
Ducati Scrambler 800 and older air-cooled Monsters
1993–present, Air-cooled two-valve L-twin (696cc, 796cc, 803cc)
- Shorter desmo service intervalsThe air-cooled two-valve engines need their valve service far more often than the newer liquid-cooled twins.
- Dry clutch wear and rattleA rattle at idle that stops when the lever is pulled in is normal on dry-clutch Ducatis, but slipping or juddering means the plates or basket are worn.
Ducati Panigale V4 / Multistrada V4
2018–present, 1103cc and 1158cc V4
- Desmo valve service at the set mileageThe V4s use cam chains, not belts, and have long valve service intervals, but they still must be done when due.
- Brake fluid and tyre wearSpongy brakes and squared-off or worn tyres on bikes that are ridden hard or used on track days.

Common questions
- What is a Ducati desmo service?
- Ducati engines use a desmodromic valve system, where the valves are closed by a rocker rather than a spring. The clearances need checking and setting at fixed mileages, which takes time because a lot has to come apart. We usually do the cam belts, spark plugs, filters and oil at the same time, so the bike is fully up to date afterwards.
- How often does my Ducati need its desmo service?
- It depends on the engine. The older air-cooled two-valve engines in bikes like the Monster 696, 796 and Scrambler need it much more often than the liquid-cooled Testastretta 11° engines in the Monster 821, 1200 and 937, and the V4s have the longest intervals. Give us your model and year and we will confirm the interval for your bike.
- How often should Ducati cam belts be changed?
- Cam belts on Ducati twins need changing by mileage and by age, whichever comes first, because the rubber ages even when the bike is stood. Ducati has extended the interval on newer engines, so it depends on your model. If you do not know when yours were last done, assume they are due and we will check.
- My Ducati's clutch rattles at idle. Is that a problem?
- On dry-clutch Ducatis a rattle at tickover that goes away when you pull the lever in is normal. If the clutch is slipping, juddering or the lever feels different, the plates, basket or slave cylinder may need attention. We check it and tell you plainly whether anything needs doing.
- Do you MOT motorcycles?
- Yes. We carry out Class 2 MOTs on motorbikes over 200cc, including your Ducati. Call us on 01922 682200 to book a bike MOT, as these are not bookable online. We can service it at the same time and put right anything that would fail.
- Will a service with you affect my Ducati warranty?
- Under UK block exemption rules, an independent service keeps the manufacturer warranty valid as long as the work follows the maker's schedule and uses parts and oils to the right specification. We follow the service schedule for your model, use the correct grade of oil and stamp your book or give you a full written record. Recall and warranty repairs themselves still need to go through a dealer.
- Do you have the right setup to work on bikes?
- Yes. We have a motorbike lift in the workshop, so your Ducati is held securely at a good working height rather than being worked on at floor level on a paddock stand. That makes jobs like wheel removal, fork work and chain changes safer and easier, and it lets us look properly underneath for leaks and wear.
- Will you give me a price before you start?
- Yes. We look the bike over, tell you what it needs now and what can wait, and give you a clear quote. Nothing gets done without your say-so. If we find something else once the work is under way, we stop and ring you before we go any further, so there are no surprises when you come to collect.
- Do you offer any discounts?
- Yes. We offer discounts for police, fire service, NHS workers and armed forces. Just mention it when you book and bring your ID when you drop the bike off. We are open Monday to Friday 8:30 to 17:00 and Saturday 8:30 to 13:00, closed on Sundays.
